Happy New Year . . . and Announcing Our New Illustration Contest!
We hope 2023 has been treating you well so far. We’ve got lots going on this year. We’re putting the finishing touches on our self-paced writing course, which should be launching over the next couple of months. We’re getting ready to launch an amazing charity walk challenge inspired by author James Brian Kerr’s book The Long Walk Home.
And we’re (finally) working on the first three titles in our upcoming line of books for kids and young adults. In fact, we’re looking for an up-and-coming illustrator to create the drawings for one of our books, and we’ve decided to sponsor a contest to find just the right person.
It’s open to all, no experience required. We’ll share a portion of the text we’re hoping to have illustrated and contestants will submit their best artistic interpretation. The winner will receive a contract to illustrate the complete book and a cash prize. For more details, visit our website.
2023 Reading Challenge
It’s that time again! We’ve just launched this year’s Reading Challenge. All you have to do to qualify to win is read 13 books over the course of the year. We’ve created a list of suggestions (see the list at left), but if you read ANY 13 books, you’re eligible for the prize.
Just post your list of titles (on our website event page (LINK) or by email LINK) any time before midnight on New Year’s Eve 2023, and you’ll be in the running.
Happy reading!

Quote of the Month
“Reading furnishes the mind only with materials of knowledge; it is thinking that makes what we read ours.”
—John Locke
Brain Teaser of the Month
Congratulations to Alex Phuong, who won an Amazon gift card. The question was:
What unusual holiday is celebrated each year on December 17?
The answer: Wright Brothers Day, celebrating the Wright brothers’ first successful flight on December 17, 1903
Now answer this:
Where does the name of the month of January come from?
Send us your answer (info@blydynsquarebooks.com) and you’ll be entered in our prize drawing.
That’s it for this month. See you next time!
